About Urban Raven
Urban Raven is now this blog. In 2007 it was a forum owned by Simon [*] at worldcrossing.com for the discussion of current events having to do with the Kanonhstaton land reclamation at Six Nations of the Grand River, reclamation of languages and culture by Indigenous peoples, and discussion and comments on news articles having to do with those topics.
It was probably the second forum with such topical discussions, I can't recall off-hand what was the name of the first one, but we did come up with the name Urban Raven; first because our perspective at that time was an urban one, second because of the screenname Simon was using there at the time, which was Simon~Raven.
While it had started off as a public forum, it was closed (made private) and many forum members moved elsewhere to venues more conducive to civil, public discussions, and less likely to give free reign to trolls and internet abusers. To explain that last statement, worldcrossing.com (which has been announced as due to close 15 Apr 2011) has an ignore and 'no access' feature accessible by forum owners; however, those features worked only by user's screenname, a user could not be banned by IP. Nor was there a 'log out' feature; in fact a user could use pretty much unlimited alternate screennames and easily switch from one to the other.

Caledonia Wake Up Call site used to "attack" Indigenous
On 11 June 2007, someone using the screenname simonshit, email snortingannie AT deadmeat DOT com, joined Urban Raven, one of Simon's Indigenous news discussion forums at worldcrossing.com, to post the following :
The caledoniawakeupcall site's homepage had been devoted to an "attack" on Simon and his partner, and / or persons apparently thought or believed to be them.

A: He is an "Indian" because he was born that way. LOL! He rarely uses the term "Indian", if someone asks "what are you" he answers either "Native" or "Mi'kmaq" (I just asked him myself what terms he prefers).
WTF is a "native drummer"? A person who is born drumming or something?
I do not believe all drum groups restrict drumming to Native-by-Blood people, so that is simply foolish. If you can sing and drum, and are accepted by the drum-carrier, you can be a drummer at a Pow-wow. There are many types of those events, ceremonial, competition, traditional, etc. Something for everyone.
I am a little tired of questions like this, so suggest the writer go read here, there is plenty to read on the subject

[1] "half-breed" is how anglophones translated the word Métis (may'-tee), the word for "mixed race" people descendants of marriages between Indigenous women (Saulteaux, Cree, Oji-Cree, Assiniboine, Ojibwe / Chippewa) and European men; "Mohawk" Kanien'keha:ka are entirely different people than the Métis people, and are found in a completely different region.

Return of Urban Raven

Most of what's being posted in here has always been on the web, but in private archives.
But after at least three years of harrassment by Canadian racists and black p.r. directed towards Simon [*] and I, I really am fed up with it, so some of it is being returned to public view.
Also this is my policy in re my own writings, especially the CC licensed ones, which are my opinion which I have every right to express as I wish. If someone lies about something I've written and has it deleted, or uses that as an intimidation tactic to try to suppress my inherent rights of expression, it will be returned it to the web three times at least, in three new places, my writings will propagate and multiply themselves.
The original might be there only once, and if it's left alone and I don't remove it myself, fine. If it's removed and especially with a false, lying, slanderous complaint to some domain owner by someone else, when I return it to the web it will be returned in at least three, and possibly more, places, and probably along with the story about what kind of intimidation was used and has been used for years now to try to silence me.
Anyone who tries to censor what I have every right to say, and express as an opinion, has only shown to me how important my opinion might be. If it wasn't important at all, it would probably be ignored. So if it's so important as an opinion someone is willing to lie to have it removed, it indicates to me as a writer that I definitely want a larger reading audience to see it. ;)

Canada's "Final Solution"

The term “Final Solution” was not coined by the Nazis, but by Indian Affairs Superintendent Duncan Campbell Scott in April of 1910 when he referred to how he envisioned the “Indian Problem” in Canada being resolved. Scott was describing planned murder when he came up with the expression, since he first used it in response to a concern raised by a west coast Indian Agent about the high level of deaths in the coastal residential schools. On April 12, 1910, Scott wrote:
“It is readily acknowledged that Indian children lose their natural resistance to illness by habitating so closely in these schools, and that they die at a much higher rate than in their villages. But this alone does not justify a change in the policy of this Department, which is geared towards the final solution of our Indian Problem.”

In 1920, under Scott’s direction, it became mandatory for all native children between the ages of seven and fifteen to attend one of Canada’s Residential Schools. In the 1930’s he brought over German doctors to do medical experiments on our children. According to the study the majority of the lives of these children were extinguished. School children are taught his poetry (‘the Battle of Lundy’s Lane’) with no mention of his role as the butcher of the country’s First Nations people.
“I want to get rid of the Indian problem. I do not think as a matter of fact, that the country ought to continuously protect a class of people who are able to stand alone… Our objective is to continue until there is not a single Indian in Canada that has not been absorbed into the body politic and there is no Indian question, and no Indian Department, that is the whole object of this Bill.” -Duncan Campbell Scott
Between 1920 and 1969, government-sponsored United Catholic Church boarding schools converted ‘savage’ Indian and Eskimo children to Christianity. 10 months of the year the native children were taken away from their families and culture. They were given numbers to identify themselves when they arrived at the schools, severely punished if caught speaking their own indigenous language and never allowed to laugh, to read, to hug or talk of their native heritage, deeply scarring them for life. Now revealed, pedophilia rings, torture, sterilization and experiments at the hands of the nuns and priests were commonplace.
Designed for genocide, many schools had a 50% death rate.

In 2010 the idea that "Indians" (so-called) are a lower class of brown people in a white supremacist universe; and that the brown class / race should finally give up the tiny little bits of land they managed to hold on to to "gain" (so conceived) the status of "landless peasant" in the Canadian (European and Christian) body politic so they can be fully assimilated, appears once again in a speech to the Senate by Patrick Brazeau, Senator on 13 May 2010.

Between 1920 and 1969, government-sponsored United Catholic Church boarding schools converted ‘savage’ Indian and Eskimo children to Christianity. 10 months of the year the native children were taken away from their families and culture. They were given numbers to identify themselves when they arrived at the schools, severely punished if caught speaking their own indigenous language and never allowed to laugh, to read, to hug or talk of their native heritage, deeply scarring them for life. Now revealed, pedophilia rings, torture, sterilization and experiments at the hands of the nuns and priests were commonplace.
Designed for genocide, many schools had a 50% death rate.

The above "final solution to the Indian problem" -- the thought and intent behind it -- has not gone away. In 2010 the idea that "Indians" (so-called) are a lower class of brown people in a white supremacist universe; and that the brown class / race should finally give up the tiny little bits of land they managed to hold on to to "gain" (so conceived) the status of "landless peasant" in the Canadian (European and Christian) body politic so they can be fully assimilated, appears once again in a speech to the Senate by Patrick Brazeau, Senator on 13 May 2010.

It is not an over reaction to be concerned over Saturday’s ragtag militia march past Kanonhstaton by a little more than a dozen hard core disgruntled Caledonians who say they have been abandoned by the OPP and the government.
Neo-nazis come in a variety of disguises according to the Simon Weisenthal Centre, an international anti-racism organization centered in Los Angeles, California.
Especially now in post 9/11 America, ultraconservatives have used the fear created by the incident and which is being sustained in the mainstream media on both sides of the US and Canadian border, to move their “white only” agendas ahead.
Neo-nazi organizations don’t necessarily consist of skinheads wearing brown shirts and a swastika arm band or shrouded in white capes and hoods anymore. They have become much more sophisticated in recent years, but no less dangerous.
A sampling of some of these supremacist organizations includes; “The Order” which Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh followed; the “national Alliance”, known as the most powerful active organization today; “WAR” (White Aryan Resistance); “White Revolution”, organized in 2002 by former high school teacher Billy Roper; the “World Church of the Creator (WCOTC)” created by David Duke, aka “Straight Edge” or “SESH”, created under the disguise of promoting moral teachings for young people; ‘www.strormfront.com’, a website created by Don Black which once proudly advertised and promoted Gary McHale’s Caledonia wake up call website and helped promote his “marches”; the “National Vanguard”, under the leadership of webmaster, Kevin Alfred Strom; “SHARP’S (skinheads against racial prejudice)”; “TRADS”, and the “Canadian Association of Free Expression” led by Paul Fromm, who has been photographed at some of McHale’s Caledonia rallies, only to name a few.
Add to that Ku Klux Klan spin-offs such as the “American Invisible Empire Knights”; the “Aryan Nations Knights”; and its “Church f the Sons of Yahweh”; “Cleveland Knights”; “Confederate Knights of the KKK”, “Keystone Knights of the KKK”, “National Knights of the KKK”, and others.
These are only a few in a disturbingly vibrant subculture, some of which carry benign reputations as organizations of average citizen’s devoted to preserving and protecting their communities.
Ultra-patriot based militia organizations, which generally hide their racist agenda behind an American or Canadian flag, are even more prolific, according to Wiesenthal Centre researchers. “Citizen’s militias attract patriotic Americans (and an increasing number of Canadian patriots), who would normally have shown very little or no interest in extremist group,” the Wiesenthal Centre determined.
They include organizations like MOM (Militia of Montana). Although its founder John Trochmann, denies an affiliation with supremacist groups, he was a keynote speaker at the 1990 Aryan Congress of the USA.
Even a few ultraconservative Christian groups have bought into supremacist ideals. Once such group is known as the “The Christian Identity”. Its founding ideals come from a school of thought made popular by Rev. John Wilson in the 1870’s which preached that Anglo-Saxons were the descendants of the “Ten Lost Tribes of Israel” and therefore, “God’s chosen people”.
In 1946, former KKK firearms instructor, Wesley Swift, started “The Anglo-Saxon Christian Congregation” aka “the Church of Jesus Christ Christian”. This bent theology preaches that hatred of blacks, jews, and other “mud races” as he called them, including North American Indians, is mandated by the Bible and, therefore, “the will of God”. Others include the “Christian Defense League (CDL)” of Louisiana, Richard Kelly Hoskins’ “Phineas Priesthood”, and the “Army of God”.
This list of intricately interwoven website networks set against blacks, jews, gays, onkwehon:weh people, and immigrant minority groups, is staggering and is growing longer every day.
That is the reality. And that is why seemingly insignificant things like Fleming and McHale’s Caledonia Militia are of significance to Six Nations, and to any right thinking Canadian. That is also the reason why hundreds of non-Native allies to Six Nations assembled at Cayuga’s Lions Club Hall, Tuesday night where the Caledonia Militia were setting up a recruiting station.
